Lifeforce ( 2007 )
Ever wondered whether an extreme metal band with great riffs, dark melodies, wonderful orchestration and beautiful female vocals mixed with harsh ones existed? Well it does, they’re called Deadlock and their new album Wolves is precisely all the aforementioned with a very contemporary sound. The Germans sound fresh and modern. They have their own identity and they stamp it all over the new album.
The addition of longtime collaborator Sabine Weniger as a permanent member of the band, has added way more than just a pretty voice. Certainly her voice is beautiful and that’s an asset in itself, but more importantly it has given Deadlock’s music another level to contrast with Johannes Prem’s excellent harsh vocals. The result is interesting to say the least, and definitely more complex. Wolves is darker and at the same time more uplifting than its predecessor Earth.Revolt.
The production has been handled by guitarist Sebastian Reichl. Adding the magic touch is Jacob Hansen, who’s mixed the album. Listen to the outstanding Losers’ Ballet, you’ll get a taste of what the sextet are capable of.
