Metalcore is starting to become a dirty name, the result of the saturation we're suffering from far too many bands thrown at us by the so called ‘new wave of American metal’, a pot of gold that will undoubtedly run out of gold like with any other genre before it. On the other hand, purists nowadays reject anything that combines Swedish melodic death with hardcore, especially if it comes from the other side of the pond. And in all this battle one thing seems to be forgotten: music. So let’s ignore trends, labels and superficial crap for a moment.
All That Remains haven’t just sprung out into action, they’ve had their fair share of hard work and troubles (members leaving in the middle of a tour, lack of money... the world of music is not all fun!). One doesn’t just start a band and write and album like ‘The Fall of Ideals’, it takes years of experience and practice besides a huge amount of innate talent.
Guitarist Oli Herbert puts the stamp of excellence with his technically challenging and wonderfully melodic compositions; both him and Mike Martin deliver an outstanding guitar sound. Bassist Jeanne Sagan (thank you guys for not falling in to the typical ‘Oh! We can´t have a girl playing, it will minimize our credibility’ nonsense) is absolutely excellent and together with Shannon Lucas pounding and incredibly good drumming, they give depth to the 11 tracks with a solid and precise rhythm section.Vocalist Phil Labonte adds the soul to the band not only with his versatile, heart-felt and powerful vocals but with his 100% commitment and faith in his band.
All That Remains are the diamond in the pot of gold.
