Nuclear Blast ( 2006 )
Up to the time of his death, Voivod's pioneering guitar player and leader, Dennis "Piggy" D'Amour, was working on numerous songs and he had recorded a huge amount of guitar parts. After his tragic death, the remaining members of Voivod decided to then record their parts around and complete the ultimate tribute to their band mate and friend.
One can’t listen to Katorz (a title that Piggy had scrawled on a CD demo) without getting emotional and feeling Piggy’s spirit behind every note.
Produced by Glen Robinson, who had produced the
classic Nothingface, Katorz is a must for any Voivod
fan, not only because it might very well be the last record from the
Canadians, but because it’s 100% Voivod. Great riffs, wonderful
groove and Snake’s unique vocal style are stamped all over the 10
tracks.
It’s said that Piggy left enough material for at least
another album, so we might be lucky and get a ‘quinze’.
