Threat Signal - Under Reprisal
Nuclear Blast ( 2006 )
Debut album by Canadian new comers Threat Signal, a fine blend of classic thrash, industrial elements and catchy hooks.
There’s a clear progression on the album, while some of the tracks show and obvious Fear Factory influence (nothing to do with Christian Olde Wolbers producing the album which he’s done rather well), some of the songs are more reminiscent of European melodic death bands like Soilwork and it is on those that I feel Threat Signal truly shine and their music is way more interesting.
The combination of well performed dual vocals, a tight rhythm section and great guitar work, will put these young guys head to head with far more experienced bands, a great achievement for such a young band. There’s something refreshing and quite exciting about their approach to making music, it sounds natural and effortless; with a bit more experience and exposure to a wider range of contemporaries, they could very well become one of the forerunners of a new breed of metallers.
Great start, now it is their follow up that I’m really looking forward to.
