JMT ( 2006 )
If you’re a bit tired of the Gothenburg-style melodic death, this is the perfect album for you. Straight from Finland, this quintet play riff oriented melodic death with a hardcore feel to it (this mainly due to the versatile vocals of new guy Mika Listzin). Full of catchy melodies and pretty thrashy at times, it also displays an impressive rhythm section courtesy of Insomnium’s guitarist and writer Ville Friman on bass and drummer Teemu Hokkane. There isn’t excessive guitar virtuoso stuff, but rather little guitar passages here and there that compliment the otherwise no nonsense approach. Slower tracks like ‘Paradox of Two’ or the Pantera sounding ‘9Mms to Deliverance’ add the groove that’s missing on a lot of their counterparts and make this album altogether different from what we’re used to recently.
