Nuclear Blast ( 2006 )
In Flames are one of those ‘love them or hate them’ bands and I happen to love them (in case there’s someone that didn’t know left in the world), but that doesn’t mean that every song and every tune they write is to my liking. The problem with In Flames diehard fans is that many cannot accept that this band have changed and evolved. In all honesty, isn’t that the case with most bands with more than three records?
So, if you were hoping for a complete return to the classic In Flames, forget it, this isn’t the one and it’s just not going to happen. Having said that, “Come Clarity” regains many of the distinctive traits they are known for and that somehow were missing in their more experimental ‘Soundtrack to Your Escape”. In Flames in 2006 are more reminiscent of the pre “Reroute to Remain” band and if you’re ready to compromise a little, there are more than a few moments of utter enjoyment and some really great tunes with darker vocals, cleaner drums and heavier riffs with a dash of acoustic guitars.
Be prepared for a few surprises too, the most surprising being the female vocals (by Lisa Miskovsky) featured on the track ‘Dead End’. All in all this is a very good album with the perfect flow, that cannot be taken away from the Swedes, in fact there are moments of sheer musical brilliance. In Flames are back and they’re still burning hot.
