Spinefarm ( 2006 )
New album from the Finns, closer to melodic death than their previous endeavors which albeit good, sounded a bit too close to Children of Bodom. Although the album retains all the trade marks that has made Finnish metal so popular (tons of twiddly guitars and keyboards mainly), this time they introduce some clean vocals. Fear not, far from resting any heaviness to the album, they add a different element to the music making it altogether a more interesting a palatable album. In a time where most melodic death flag bearers seem to be departing from the European sound that made them different in the first place, Norther take their music forward by injecting what others have discarded and as a result deliver a heavy and wonderfully melodic album.
