Blood Stain Child - Idolator
Pony Canyon ( 2005 )
In these times when In Flames imitators and let’s call it ‘inspired by’ bands come out from under the stones, it was highly unlikely that I would get impressed with a Japanese band sounding so much like my adored Swedes. Yes, Blood Stain Child sound scarily like the most recent In Flames but hell, they do it rather well.
‘Idolator’ is the Japanese alternative to In Flames latest album ‘Soundtrack To Your Escape’, but you wouldn’t guess this is a Japanese release in a million years if not told.
Listening to tracks like ‘Life Story”, “True Blue”, “Live Inside” or “Final Sky” (I swear I could hear Anders’ voice on this one, that’s how alike they are) makes me reflect on how come we rave about an album that is so clearly inspired by our least favourite In Flames release. In other words we’re accepting from a pretty unknown band what we wouldn’t accept from In Flames. It may seem pretty unfair but that’s how it is. The answer is quite clear, we don’t have any history with Blood Stain Child while In Flames have been forerunners and heroes of a whole genre for more than a decade.
The bottom line is that this is great music, well produced and highly contemporary. Blood Stain Child are a force to be reckoned with, let’s hope they now inspire other bands in Japan and abroad.
