Nightingale - Nightfall Overture
Black Mark ( 2005 )
I should start by saying that Dan Swanö is one of my favourite musicians of all time. Not only he’s got ‘the voice’, but everything he’s been involved with has touched me and impressed me in some amazing way. From Edge of Sanity to his solo album ‘Moontower’, through Bloodbath and of course his production work. He could record a Chritsmas Carols album and I would most probably love it.
Nightingale is pure melody, a mixture of classic and progressive rock, almost sounding like a 70’s band but with the 21st century sound quality . In case you’re not familiar with their work, ‘Nightfall Overture’ is a great starting point, containing re-recorded songs from the group's first three releases. This is not a ‘best of’ album though, but a 10th anniversary celebration.
Fans of Edge of Sanity can also enjoy the great ‘Losing Myself’, originally from the band’s ‘Infernal’ album, later re-recorded for Nightingale’s 2000 ‘I’ album and done once more for ‘Nightfall Overture’.
In short, a group of great songs beautifully performed and produced. I’m just counting the days for that new album to be recorded next summer.
