Detonation - Portals To Uphobia
Osmose ( 2005 )
A band’s second album is always an extremely difficult step, more so if their debut album is as great as Detonation’s ‘An Epic Defiance’. Having seen them play live and knowing at first hand the musicianship of the Dutch, I had no doubt in my mind they would pull it off. They have already created their own identity, perhaps the result of years of playing before getting signed to Osmose. ‘Portals to Uphobia’ still sounds 100% Detonation but even better.
What makes Detonation so impressive and so wonderful to listen to, is the diversity in their music, fast pace rhythms mixed with tempo changes, aggressive vocals combined with gentle guitars, you’re never bored and you can never predict what’s happening next. Beautiful instrumental ‘Lost Euphoria (Part III)’ is the icing on the cake of an album that can inspire a thousand emotions.
Detonation’s debut album revealed one of the most talented European bands, this second album confirms it. I’m already looking forward to the third!
