Nightrage - Descent Into Chaos
Century Media ( 2005 )
I confess, I didn't think much of Nightrage's 2003 debut album 'Sweet Vengeance'. Sure it had some good tracks, with 'Hero' being the most outstanding, but nothing really grabbed me. I thought of it more as a quickly put together project with the obvious selling point of counting with the talents of famous names like Tomas Lindberg, Per M. Jensen and Gus G. In consequence I wasn't expecting much from this second work and I'm happy to say I was wrong and gladly surprised. In 2005 Nightrage sound like a compact band with their own identity and distinctive sound.
Ex-Sceptic Flesh Fotis Bernardo has replaced The Haunted's Per M. Jensen on drums and Cypher System's Henric Carlsson has taken over bass duties. It's clear that Nightrage are not just a project anymore.
'Descent into Chaos' is way more diverse than its predecessor, taking some risks in the song writing and delivering a variety of rhythms. From opening track 'Being Nothing', furious and speedy, to catchy and heavy 'Reality vs Truth', through the obvious single 'Frozen' (with guest appearance by Dark Tranquillity's Mikael Stanne on clean vocals), the slow but powerful 'Release' or even the instrumental 'Solus'. This is a rainbow of moods and styles without ever losing its ranging force.
Let the chaos begin!
