Nuclear Blast ( 2007 )
You might be one of those nostalgics that believe Amorphis' second album Tales From The Thousand Lakes marked the peak of their career and that the Finns were never the same after vocalist Pasi's departure. In this case you're probably not interested in this album. However, I encourage you to listen to it with an open mind and you'll discover that Amorphis in 2007 retain many of the elements that made them singular in the first place.
Silent Waters is a very beautiful album and way more complete that the previous Eclipse and I dare say any album after Tuonela. We can hear Amorphis as the kings of melody again.
From album opener Weaving the Incantation to tracks like A Servant or the marvelous Towards and Against, it’s clear Amorphis have returned stronger than ever. Perfect dual vocals charged with emotion, epic strokes and the unmistakable sound of the Hammond organ which gives it that progressive touch. Tracks with acoustic passages like Enigma or Shaman add the Nordic folk sound. Not forgetting the beautifully melodic ballads like the title track Silent Waters or the gorgeous Black River.
Simply fantastic.
