Nuclear Blast ( 2007 )
What can I tell you about Dimmu Borgir that you don’t already know? The Norwegians have achieved more than most and they’ve taken their music beyond the black metal frontiers. They possess a certain musical sensitivity that makes them truly remarkable and timeless.
“In Sorte Diaboli” continues in the vibe of “Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia” and “Death Cult Armageddon”, although perhaps less symphonic and more aggressive. There are classical samples, but rather than mix them completely with the metal, they’re cleverly placed to complement the music and enhance it. The album also recaptures some of the earlier Dimmu Borgir sound and stands out for great riffs, fabulous drumming and the excellent vocals they’ve got us accustomed to. The result is a mature and complete album that will once more appeal to fans of different genres.
Simply magnificent!
